Category 1: Clean Water
This type of water damage is what most of us are familiar with. It comes from a sanitary water source like a kitchen sink or appliance, and it looks and smells like it came from the tap. This type of water is usually safe, but once it is exposed to the environment it could pick up bacterias or other harmful substances. You could start the clean up process, but it is always best to wait until the professionals arrive to assess the situation and the damage that has been caused.
Category 2: Gray Water
Gray water is the water that no one really wants floating around in their business or home. It can be caused by things like a broken toilet or broken sump pump. Gray water can contain harmful microorganisms and can cause illness if ingested.
Category 3: Black Water
Black water is highly contaminated with bacteria, chemicals, and other toxic pathogens and is unsanitary. This type of water damage could be a result of sewage problems or contamination of standing water over a period of time.
