If you've experienced a flooded basement, you have more than likely learned a thing or two from dealing with the inconvenience. If you have been lucky enough to avoid this, we have some tips in dealing with basement flooding. It's always nice to know 'what to do' in advance.

1. Is it safe to stay in the house?
2. identify where the water source is coming from
3. Only do activities that can be safely preformed

Additional Tips Include:

• Flooded basements can result in gas leaks. If you smell gas, contact the local fire department or gas company
• Electricity and water don't mix. Turn off circuit breakers to your basement power if you can do so safely
• If you suspect structural damage, stay out of the basement and consult a contractor as soon as possible
• Rain water may contain bacteria from raw sewage. Wear protective wear when entering the affected area.
• Lastly, contact your insurance agent for help with policy coverages and permission to contact SERVPRO to start the clean up and drying process
