Here are some tips on what you can do to be prepared:
Learn about your local community’s emergency warning system for severe
Discuss thunderstorm safety and lightning safety with all members of your household.
Pick a safe place in your home for household members to gather during a thunderstorm. This should be away from windows, skylights and glass doors that could be broken by strong winds or hail.
- Make a list of items to bring inside in the event of a severe thunderstorm.
- Make trees and shrubbery more wind resistant by keeping them trimmed and removing damaged branches.
- Protect your animals by ensuring that any outside buildings that house them are protected in the same way as your home.
- Consult your local fire department if you are considering installing lightning rods.
Lightning creates shock waves. Lightning striking across a cloud produces shock waves that we know as thunder, but it can also cause these on the ground. These shock waves are powerful enough to explode cinder blocks and shatter windows, so it is wise to inspect the foundation of your home if lightning struck nearby.
Lightning can damage electronics. When it travels through a home’s wiring system, lightning can transfer its charge throughout the electrical network of the home—causing significant damage to anything plugged in. A surge protector is a good precautionary measure for protection.
Lightning can start fires. Because lightning typically strikes buildings or structures, it can often cause fires. Not only do its high temperatures have the potential for igniting a home on impact, but it can also cause severe wiring damage within the walls of the home. If your house has been struck, the fire department can perform tests to ensure the wiring is not a fire risk.
If your home or business experiences a lightning fire related damage, call SERVPRO of East Hamilton Fairfield.

Water that is classified as Category 1 is commonly referred to as “clean water,” as the water’s source is sanitary and does not pose any risks from exposure. Category 1 water examples may include melting ice or snow, rainwater, and broken water supply lines. While it does not appear as though Category 1 water poses a significant risk, this water can deteriorate depending on how long microorganisms remain wet after exposure and the environment’s temperature. If the water develops an odor, its sanitation has likely worsened, dropping its classification to category 2.
Category 2- Gray Water
When water falls under Category 2, it is significantly contaminated. Upon exposure or consumption, humans can experience symptoms ranging from discomfort to sickness. A wide variety of circumstances fall under Category 2, including common household water damage situations like dishwasher discharge, washing machine overflow, and toilet bowl overflows. Category 2 water also includes a few surprises, such as punctured water beds and broken aquariums. Like Category 1 water, this water can also deteriorate to Category 3, also known as “black water.”
Category 3- Black Water
The most severely contaminated category of water according to the IICRC, Category 3 water, is commonly known as “black water.” Water of this category is grossly contaminated, according to the IICRC, and sometimes contains pathogens, toxins, or other harmful agents. Category 2 water is known to occasionally cause health concerns, but upon contacting or consuming Category 3 water, humans can experience very serious health concerns. Types of water that fall under this category include sewage, flooding that originates from seawater and rivers, as well as wind-driven rain from tropical storms or hurricanes. It is important to understand that Category 3 water is capable of carrying harmful substances like toxins and pesticides, so it is best to allow a professional to handle the situation.
Life would be convenient if everything stayed on schedule. Things only happen when they're supposed to, and the weekends are only for rest and relaxation. Maybe in a perfect world…
But this is the real world. Disasters never take a day off. Sometimes the emergency you experience is at 3 am. That burst pipe in your basement isn't going to wait until Monday morning. Once the fire department extinguishes the blaze, someone's got to come out and start to clean up the mess.
That's why you call SERVPRO of Warren County. Your call will be answered 24/7, and we'll be there when you need us. We are Faster to Any Size Disaster. We are emergency services and here 365 days a year.
When water leaks the first thing you need to do is shut off the source so that the water stops. It’s important to ensure that the water stops in response to turning off the valve. Example the supply line to the sink has burst. You turn off the valve to stop the water, if the water keeps coming out you will need to look for the shut off valve (The main).
It is not uncommon for old shut off valves to go bad to the point that when you try shutting them off, it doesn't work. If this is the case in your property, you will need to locate the main water valve. This valve is usually located at the water meter for city water. If you have a well, it is typically located by your pressure tank.
In the event of a water disaster in your home, you want to limit the amount of water leaking. By locating the source of the leak and shutting off your main water valve, you are well on your way to recovery.
SERVPRO of East Hamilton Fairfield is available 24-7/365 and can be reached at (513) 858-1071.
This type of water damage is what most of us are familiar with. It comes from a sanitary water source like a kitchen sink or appliance, and it looks and smells like it came from the tap. This type of water is usually safe, but once it is exposed to the environment it could pick up bacterias or other harmful substances. You could start the clean up process, but it is always best to wait until the professionals arrive to assess the situation and the damage that has been caused.
Category 2: Gray Water
Gray water is the water that no one really wants floating around in their business or home. It can be caused by things like a broken toilet or broken sump pump. Gray water can contain harmful microorganisms and can cause illness if ingested.
Category 3: Black Water
Black water is highly contaminated with bacteria, chemicals, and other toxic pathogens and is unsanitary. This type of water damage could be a result of sewage problems or contamination of standing water over a period of time.
If you ever experience any kind of damage, give us a call. We are emergency services and are available 24-7/365.

Water damage, seen or unseen, can wreak havoc in warehouses. Production time can suffer, inventory is damaged and structural integrity becomes insecure. When water damage strikes at your warehouse or other commercial facility, you need a plan.
Act Fast
Time is money. Acting quickly can save thousands, sometimes millions.
Locate and stop the damage. Most water damage involves either the plumbing system or sudden floods from storms. Know where your water valve is to shut it off. Be able to locate the most vulnerable, standing-water prone areas to stop the damage. If you’re new or unfamiliar with the warehouse, grab a blueprint or a more seasoned associate. Perhaps grab an associate trained by SERVPRO® to be emergency ready at all times. Again, timeliness counts.
Let’s be honest. Clean ducts aren’t necessarily at the top of our day-to-day priority list, but it’s important!
The phrase “duct cleaning” usually refers to cleaning heating and cooling systems such as an air conditioning unit (HVAC) or ventilation. If these pieces of equipment are not properly installed or maintained, their parts can collect dust or pollen. If this occurs in a humid or moist environment, this material can be released into parts of the home. Breathing this in can cause health effects. Essentially, failing to maintain your ducts can lead to poor air quality in the home.
Don’t let that happen to you! Call SERVPRO of East Hamilton Fairfield for a duct cleaning.
Why SERVPRO?
Our technicians have the skillset needed to give your home the detailed cleaning that it needs to look its best.
We have the equipment and training needed to eliminate offensive odors from your home.

One should not attempt to handle this situation without professional help. SERVPRO is certified and can clean and remove all affected areas and materials properly.
This could be from blood or trauma, hoarding, sewage, and chemical or gas spills.
Vandalism
Paint can be a tricky thing to clean up. But, when one vandalizes another’s property, it can be traumatizing. SERVPRO has skilled professionals and specific chemical combinations to remove graffiti and paint.
So, if you have a situation that requires professional services, give SERVPRO of East Hamilton Fairfield a call at (513) 858-1071
Make sure all lawn furniture, gardening tools, sporting equipment and other outdoor items are stored away if a storm is heading your way.
High winds during a heavy storm can potentially pick up these items and send them flying through a window or far away from your home.
Putting away loose outdoor items in this situation can protect your house (and your neighbors’ houses) from unnecessary damage.
Trim the trees
Take time to examine the trees in your yard or surrounding your house.
Storms will often snap large tree branches, which can damage your home’s siding, smash your car or even topple power lines and cause outages.
If the tree has a loose connection with a big branch, consider sawing it off. It might reduce some shade in the yard, but can potentially protect your home.
A mold problem can present serious health effects for you and your employees. Mold growth can be caused by the smallest water intrusions, like faulty plumbing or a leaky roof.
Every hour spent cleaning up is an hour of lost revenue and productivity. If you suspect your property has a mold problem, call a SERVPRO Franchise Professional, who will respond quickly and work fast to manage the situation.
Mold can spread quickly through a property if left untreated. SERVPRO Franchise Professionals can respond quickly, working to first contain the infestation to help prevent its spread to other parts of the building. Next, they will begin the remediation process, working safely and effectively to manage the situation. They have the training, experience, and equipment to contain the mold infestation and remediate it to preloss condition.

Change your batteries – It is always important to check all smoke detectors and carbon monoxide devices in your home.
Have your furnace inspected – Hire an HVAC professional to test for leaks, change the filter, and check for heating efficiency.
Check water drainage – Rainwater downspouts need to be clear of obstructions and direct water away from foundations, walkways, and driveways.
Take care of the little things that can make a huge difference for you and your home. By following this checklist, you could potentially avoid extensive damage to your home. As always, if you happen to have water damage, we are here to help 24/7.
Fires are dangerous, even in the aftermath. It’s pertinent that you know what to do, and more importantly, what NOT to do after a fire breaks out in your home or business. There are a few very critical actions you should avoid when dealing with a fire outbreak, remember these four fire don’ts:
DO NOT enter the building until you are given professional advisory that it is safe to do so.
DO NOT turn on any gas, water, or electric utilities until a professional has assessed the severity of the situation.
DO NOT start or move any vehicle that has been impacted or affected by the fire.
DO NOT attempt to clean any soot, smoke, or burn damage yourself. Wait for the professionals with the proper experience to arrive at the scene. It’s important to not risk anything or leave any factors up to chance without the proper education.

Fire and smoke damage can wreak havoc on your property. A quick reaction can help you minimize the impact of destruction, as some of your items and household goods can be restored if treated immediately. However, the longer you wait to mitigate smoke and fire damage, the more costly the damage becomes.
The Restoration Cost Increases: When you delay the mitigation process, the damages begin to get worse. The longer smoke damage goes untreated, the harder it is to neutralize the odor. These challenges make the treatment process more time consuming, which equals to a more expensive bill.
Extensive Damage: Smoke and ash mixed with water produce a very corrosive element. If not cleaned quickly, this substance begins to eat away at your walls, floors, ceilings, and any other surfaces in your home. You will not successfully remove this substance by cleaning with soap and water. This substance requires proper cleaning with the right chemicals to remove it from your home.
Soot Deposits: If left for too long, soot can travel to rooms that were not immediately affected by the fire. Wall paint, carpet, furniture, drapes, clothing, and other items can be stained or damaged by soot.
Permanent Damage: Your home can suffer from permanent damage if smoke or fire damage is not mitigated promptly. Prolonged exposure can cause permanent damage to your walls, metal surfaces, clothes, furniture, and floors.
If you experience smoke or fire damage, act quickly and call SERVPRO of East Hamilton Fairfield at (513)858-1071

Most commercial facilities have drop ceilings with ceiling tiles. It is not uncommon for these tiles to become damaged over time and require replacement. However, many facility managers may be disheartened to find a single tile or several tiles with stains and assume tile mold. While your mind may immediately jump to mold growth, any remediation service will likely explain that mold is possible, but there are at least three other causes, especially if the staining is recent.
Plumbing problem
Roof leak
HVAC system issue
Plumbing Problem If your facility is multi-story, then the tile discoloration is likely the result of plumbing issues and not tile mold. Ceiling tiles are incredibly porous and will soak in the water, causing a stain to appear on the other side. Fresh water stains typically look damp; they will likely turn the tile a shade of gray, especially if the tile is a lighter color naturally.
Roof Leak If your facility is a single-story, then you may have a more significant issue than a minor plumbing leak. A roof leak can also result in the discoloration of ceiling tiles because of water damage. You may want to inspect your roof around the area of the staining to ensure that there is no existing external damage.
HVAC System Issue If your facility has roof-mounted HVAC units, it is possible that the staining is a result of leaking from the condensation line or system and not mold. If you have an A/C unit above or near where the staining appeared, then you may want to contact an HVAC repair specialist. While tile mold is a concern for any business because of the inevitable business interruption, it is not always the reason for tile staining. If you are genuinely concerned about the possibility of mold and cannot find any other likely causes for the staining, then contact SERVPRO for a property assessment.

Whenever mold is found in your building, and you call in a professional mold remediation franchise, the company is guided by science and experience. The mold standards in place for cleanup and restoration have been established by a rigorous process that involves such organizations as the EPA and OSHA, as well as the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification. In most cases, these standards serve as guidelines and recommendations, though in some situations they have been adopted in codified regulations. The purpose of the standards is to identify what works best in cleaning and restoration for effective and safe treatment of black mold and other fungus problems.
Mold Remediation
A company that works on mold removal should adhere to the highest mold standards for cleanup. These standards can change as new information and new cleaning techniques are discovered. The mold clean process follows these proven steps for the best results:
A fast response to the problem
An inspection and assessment
Mold containment through the use of physical barriers and negative air pressure
Air filtration through the utilization of air scrubbers and HEPA vacuums
Mold removal and treatment of mold-infested items
Content cleaning
Mold restoration is complete when all areas affected by mold have been treated. There might still be low-levels of mold spores present, but the ability of the spores to spread has been curtailed.
Mold Facts The mold standards for cleanup and restoration have been developed through a thorough understanding of the organism. Mold thrives on moisture and can quickly spread under the right conditions. Once excess moisture is present, mold can begin to proliferate and expand in as little as 48-72 hours. Taking care of the water problem is one key to mold removal. Though the organism is tiny, it can produce a musty odor and degrade indoor air quality. An informed approach can quickly eradicate a mold problem in your place of business.
Ice dams can be damaging to your roof, eaves, and even cause water to back up under shingles and in to your home. This can happen when snow melts from the warmer top portion of your roof and runs towards the colder eave, where it freezes. Heavy snow can worsen this effect, as it will hold the warmer air under the snow layer and allow the ice to accumulate. How can you prevent this problem?
1) Keep your gutters clean
2) Make sure heat sources to the attic are blocked and that there is ventilation allowing cold air to circulate in to the attic space
3) Insulate the space between the living space and attic
4) Clean heavy snow off of the roof with a roof rake
5) Install electric heat cable in a "z" pattern along your roof line
Always know, that should you have a problem, SERVPRO of East Ha,Liston Fairfield is ready to help!
The water removal process begins almost immediately and removes the majority of the water. We use powerful pumps and vacuum units to quickly remove hundreds or thousands of gallons from your property, which helps prevent secondary water damage and mold growth.
Water Removal Equipment
Moisture detectors, hygrometers, and other meters measure the extent of moisture saturation.
Infrared cameras may be used to find “hidden” water behind walls and ceilings.
Submersible and gas-powered pumps are used for continuous pumping of high-level water.
Truck-mounted and portable extraction units perform efficient water removal.
Emergency Water Removal
Our highly trained technicians will begin the water removal process almost immediately. Depending on the amount of water, we may use powerful submersible pumps in addition to industrial strength, wet/dry vacuums. Did you know, there is actually a science behind the process of drying? The knowledge of psychometrics is essential to restoring a water damage structure to its pre loss condition. While your initial reaction may be to grab a few towels to mop up the mess and places a fan or two around the damage are.
What exactly does “speed up Mother Nature” mean? A wet building can often dry naturally because the environment always seeks equilibrium. When materials are wet, moisture will naturally move to drier air on the surface of the material but only if the air is, indeed drier. The only problem is, nature takes too long and secondary damages may occur while the building is drying out.
SERVPRO of East Hamilton Fairfield have been trained to use top-of-the-line equipment to help Mother Nature along, including equipment to help dry hardwood floors, tough-to-reach spaces inside walls, and much more. Your local SERVPRO Franchise Professionals also use state-of-the-art monitoring equipment and a proven scientific process to help speed the drying of your home or business.
SERVPRO is proud to utilize a newly developed tool SERVPRO DryBook.
The SERVPRO DryBook is a proprietary tool allowing us to capture and track the steps of restoration project according to industry best practices and standards. This ensures your restoration is done properly and efficiently. It also improves results and restores your property at a faster rate, getting you backing your home sooner.
Following a fire, there are two different types of smoke, wet and dry. As a result there are different types of soot residue after a fire.
Wet Smoke (Plastic and Rubber) Low heat, smoldering, pungent odor, sticky, smeary. Smoke webs are more difficult to clean.
Dry Smoke (Paper and Wood) Fast burning, high temperatures; heat rises, therefore smoke rises.
Protein Fire Residue (Produced by evaporation of material rather than from a fire) Virtually invisible, discolors paints and varnishes, extreme pungent odor.
Fuel Oil Soot (Furnace Puff Backs) While "puff backs" can create havoc for homeowners, SERVPRO Franchise Professionals can, in most cases, restore the contents and structure quickly.
Other Types (Tear gas, fingerprint powder, and fire extinguisher residue) Special loss situations require special care.
SERVPRO of East Hamilton Fairfield professionals are thoroughly trained in fire cleanup and restoration and know the different types of smoke and their behavior patterns.
Our team can help restore old keepsakes damaged by fire.
When you have a fire in the home, it can devastate members of the home and be emotionally distressing. The most important step when there is a fire is to ensure all members of the home are safe. Once everyone is safe so much goes through the mind of a fire victim. Memories shared with loved ones inside the home flood through one’s mind. The stresses of accounting for the valuables and keepsakes that are irreplaceable come to mind. The last thing one thinks about is what steps are next.
Once everyone is outside the home and the fire is extinguished, contact us. Our staff is available 24 hours a week and seven days a week. We will arrive on the scene quickly to assess damages and get to work right away. We even work with your insurance, saving you steps. Right now is a time for you to worry about other things.
It is important to not put off mitigation and restoration. The longer soot residues remain in the home and on materials within the home the harder it will be to remove. Not only can the soot be hard to remove, but it can also carry further through the house and the leftover smoke is not healthy for you or your family.

As we get further into the Fall, leaves start changing colors and falling from the trees. For many home owners this beautiful season can be overshadowed the constant need to rake their yard. It becomes a frequent task to upkeep your yard and dispose of the leaves. Some people prefer to bag the leaves and have them taken away while others burn their leaves. At SERVPRO, we would like to give some simple tips to those who use the burning leaves method.
Check to make sure it is legal in your community. Some townships have set dates for when burning leaves is acceptable or require permits.
Create the burning pile on dirt or gravel. Avoid doing it on grass or fields.
Consult weather forecasts on a day with high winds.
Do not use gasoline or fire starters to start it.
Keep the pile small and slowly add leaves as the previous ones burn to the bottom of the pile.
Keep water source near in case of emergency and to dowse embers when finished.
Know that there are safer and less harmful ways that open burning leaves such as closed metal burn drums or putting the leaves is biodegradable bags and giving them to the city. We want to keep people safe no matter what their preferred method is.

The restore vs. replace mentality is one of the greatest assets SERVPRO has. When it comes to making it "Like it never even happened," it’s impossible to overstate the importance of keeping as many of the original items as possible. This allows prices to stay down as the cost for restoration is 20% of the cost for replacement. More importantly, restoring is the preferred option because whether we realize it or not, the things in our homes, even the most arbitrary, have some kind of sentimental value. The blanket you always grab when you watch a movie, the plate you put your Thanksgiving turkey on or the couch your grandparents gave you. Every item of yours is important and SERVPRO will treat it as such.
Thermal imaging was first developed for military use during the Korean War. This kind of imaging uses temperature to distinguish hot and cold temperatures through walls and long distances. It is used by firefighters to see through smoke and find people; It is also used by law enforcement to locate suspects and handle search and rescue efforts. But those aren’t the only ways it can be effective or helpful.
How We Use Thermal Imaging
We use it to locate water trapped within walls or floors. Water damage can create long term issues if not detected soon enough. That’s why it is important to catch the source of the water and correct the problem and dry out any affected materials before it is too late. Thermal imaging may be the solution before one has to take a destructive approach. Although, thermal imaging cannon “see” water, it can detect differences in temperature that could indicate a location to test. This is just one of the reasons why SERVPRO of East Hamilton Fairfield can service you. If you suspect water damage, give us a call at (513) 858-1071
Even though concrete flooring and steel building materials have a very low porosity for standing water and saturation, flooding in your Englewood warehouse can be a costly disaster. Addressing the migrating flood water involves the use of both our premier extraction tools, as well as effective drying solutions and cleaning products. Protecting your facility hinges on the fast and confident response of professionals like our SERVPRO team.
Invading water can move quickly across the warehouse floor, which can lead to widespread flood damage in structures. Surface water does not easily penetrate solid materials like concrete or metal, allowing it to pool at the floor level and get absorbed into inventory, boxes, crates, and pallets throughout this main floor of the building instead. With how readily moisture can affect stocked items and packing materials throughout the warehouse, removing this standing water is vital to protecting your stored products.
Our SERVPRO team has a warehouse of our own, one which can store and protect removed belongings and contents from your building until restoration and drying are complete. Our content management team can determine what items are in the direct path for water exposure or even in position for damage from elevated humidity and moisture content in the area. We can pack and move these items to our facility for safekeeping and focused drying, cleaning, and deodorization efforts before that.
The CDC recommends cleaning and disinfecting high touch surfaces such as countertops, tabletops, table chairs, light switches, doorknobs, shared office equipment like keyboards, the mouse, computer screens, fax and copy machines with a EPA-registered disinfectant like SERVPROXIDE.

Mold is a fungus that appears frequently in the environment. It releases spores that spread throughout nature and enter buildings. Mold damage occurs when spores quickly grow within a property. This typically transpires when there is excessive moisture on the premises due to:
Broken water heater
Leaky roof
Leaky pipe
Poor ventilation
High humidity
Once the mold begins to spread, it may destroy parts of your property. Mold frequently grows on materials that make up buildings, including carpet, wood and drywall. It then breaks down these items and uses them as food. Worst of all, the mold may initially grow under floors or behind walls and ceiling tiles. By the time you notice this mold, the damage may have already been done.
Mold and Insurance
A standard commercial insurance policy usually features a fungus exclusion. However, there are exceptions to this exclusion. Specifically, your policy likely offers limited fungus coverage. This mold insurance covers property destruction due to fungus that results from a specified cause of loss. The main mold-causing perils that fall into this category are water damage and leaking fire suppression systems.
What Is Covered
You can use this insurance money to repair physical damage caused by the mold. The insurance additionally covers the expense of tearing out walls or floorboards to reach the spores. Addressing the mold on your own could just cause additional harm, so you should hire mold remediation specialists to handle the job. Insurance even covers the cost of testing the property to ensure the black mold cleanup is complete. Without commercial insurance, you would be stuck paying for mold repairs out of your own pocket. Your insurance provider can give you more details about your specific policy.
If you own a business, you may be worried about roof damage to your commercial property. Fortunately, there are a number of things you can do to help keep the roof of your business in working order.
1. Keeping Gutters Clean
One important step for roof maintenance is to keep your gutters clean. This can help prevent blockages that can lead to flooding and pooling water on your roof. It's best to check your gutters after storms to ensure that no debris has been washed into them.
2. Monitor the Roof’s Condition
It's also important to monitor the roof's condition on a regular basis. Look for any wind damage, loose shingles or cracked tiles. These are all things that should be taken care of as quickly as possible.
3. Regular Inspections
A regular inspection by a professional can help prevent roof damage in the long-term. These professionals can look over your roof for any signs of damage you may have missed. If found, repairs can be conducted to get the roof back into working order.
4. Trim Back Trees
Another step you can take for roof maintenance is to trim back any tree branches that could fall onto the roof. This can help prevent damage in the event a storm causes brakes in the tree limbs.
5. Conducting Repairs Quickly
In the event you do find damages or areas needing repair on your businesses roof, then a professional restoration team may be able to help. In the event of extreme damage, they may even be able to perform a full roof rebuild.
Following these steps can help reduce the possibility of roof damage to your business. Remember to keep your gutters clean to prevent flooding, inspect for cracks in shingles or roof tiles, trim back any tree branches that could fall into your business, and conduct any repairs needed as quickly as possible. If you do find the roof has storm damage, then a professional may be able to help.
Category I is clean, potable (drinkable) water. This is water comes from an overflowing sink, bathtub, broken water supply line or a fixture shut-off valve. This is the preferred source should water damage occur, since it poses minimal risk of contamination or respiratory danger.
Category II water is sometimes called "gray" water. It is not drinkable, but also not full of sewage. Category II water can include dishwasher run-off or washing-machine run-off. These sources contain soap and/or food contaminants but not raw sewage.
Category III water, sometimes called "black" water, is highly contaminated. It contains bacteria or chemicals harmful to touch, consume or inhale. Category III water must be removed by a professional with proper immunizations and personal protective equipment. Category III water can include any type of sewer back-up, water that has run across open ground before entering the structure, or anything related to a chemical spill.
Stop the Source
If the water is Category I or II, your next step is stopping the source. (If Category III, wait for a professional.) Be sure you know where your main shut-off valve is for your home's water supply and test it yearly to ensure proper function. If your leak is coming from an appliance or fixture with a shut-off valve, turn this valve off instead of the water to the entire building.
If a large amount of sewage is coming out of a drain line continuously there is a blockage in the sewer line or the municipal sewer system is malfunctioning in your entire neighborhood. Immediately call your city's wastewater department and report the issue. They need to respond immediately to prevent the flow of sewage.

Most of the time when we have water damage, we don’t know until long after damage has already been done, especially when it comes to a leaky refrigerator. Since the fridge blocks our vision of the wall and floor behind it, we don’t notice it has a leak unless it creates a puddle visible to us. Refrigerator damage doesn’t always happen abruptly, it usually happens over time due to a crack in the plastic water line, ice maker leaks, and condensation. If you notice water by your fridge and the water has only recently been there, then moping it up and letting it dry, should avert any real damage. Make sure that the walls are dry as well, this will help with mold growth. If your fridge has caused water damage over a long period of time, you’ll more than likely need your flooring and wall replaced. This is where SERVPRO of East Hamilton Fairfield can help! If you want to prevent any possibilities of this happening to you, you should regularly check and maintain your fridge. You’ll want to clear away the debris and dust from behind, then check for hard water build up in the water line.
Water damage does not just come from leaky pipes and intense storms. Lucky for you, there is any other potential hazard lurking in your plumbing-sewage cleaning. However, if you know what to look for, you can get it under control before any real damage occurs.
MYSTERIOUS OVERFLOW
Have you ever noticed toilets overflow while you are taking a shower? This is not just happenstance, it is indicative of a clog between the toilet and the sewer. This clog prevents the water in your shower from draining, so it backs up into the waste water lines. From these lines, the first available place to escape is usually your toilet. There are a few possible soutions:
Use a specialized plumbing tool called a snake
Locate and clear your drain clean out
Call professional restoration services
DRAINS THAT WILL NOT DRAIN
Have you just taken a bath, but now the water will not drain from the tub? You may also see this backup happening in your kitchen sink. This means you probably have a clogged pipe-either somewhere in your waste water lines or directly below your drain. This may be as easy as clearing hair or debris from your drain, but in not, it would be best to get help as soon as possible. You will want to head this situation off before more overflow causes water damage to your bathroom or kitchen.
A SWAMPY YARD
If your yard consistently smells like sewage and appears more damp than normal, you may have a larger sewage cleaning issue. If a sewage line has collapsed or your septic tank is overflowing, your yard may be filled with waste. You should not attempt to handle this situation yourself, as it can require difficult and delicate work. Make sure to call a professional service right away.
Issues with sewage cleaning can get kind of gross, but do not let that put you off from spotting and handling any problems that may arise. Remember, there are people out there that can fix it for you!
A combustion or burning in which substances combine chemically with oxygen from the air and typically give out bright light, heat, and smoke is known as a fire. Fires can occur in homes and outdoors, due to many causes.
Some interesting facts about fire:
1. There is a house fire every ten seconds in the United States.
2. House fires can spread in as little as thirty seconds.
3. Create and practice a fire escape plan.
4. Cooking is the leading cause of house fires
5. More then 15,000 fires a year are started by cloths dryers
6. 21% of fires are caused by Arson
It is very important that if there is ever a fire GET OUT, STAY OUT, and CALL FOR HELP! Fires can cause severe damage, it is important to practice safe steps when preparing for a potential fire.
If you have a fire in your home we understand you won’t be out there on the web looking for tips, but maybe by reading these ahead of time some of these will stick in your head if you do fall into this unfortunate position.
At SERVPRO of East Hamilton/Fairfield we have the goal in mind to make it “Like it never even happened,” in your home. Whether it's smoked or smoldered we will make sure our professionally trained crew will be there for you.
Here are a few Do’s and Don’ts if you have fire and smoke damage.
DO
Limit movement of people in the structure to prevent soot particles from being embedded into upholstery and carpets.
Keep hands clean. Soot on hands can further soil upholstery, walls, and woodwork.
Place dry, colorfast towels on rugs, upholstery and carpet traffic areas.
If electricity is off, empty freezer and refrigerator completely, and prop doors open to prevent odor.
Wipe soot from chrome on kitchen and bathroom faucets, trim and appliances. Then protect with a light coat of lubricant.
Pour RV antifreeze into sinks, toilet bowl, holding tanks, and tubs if heat is off during freezing season.
Gently wash both side of leaves and indoor plants.
Change HVAC filter, but leave system off until checked by trained professional.
Tape double layers of cheesecloth over air registers to stop particles of soot from getting in or out of the HVAC system.
DON’T
DON’T attempt to wash any walls or painted surfaces without first contacting SERVPRO of East Hamilton/Fairfield.
DON’T attempt to shampoo carpet or upholstered furniture without first consulting SERVPRO.
DON’T attempt to clean any electrical appliances that may have been close to fire, heat or water without first consulting an authorized repair service person.
DON’T consume any canned or packaged food or beverages that may have been stored close to fire, heat or water. They could be contaminated.
DON’T turn on ceiling fixtures if ceiling is wet, wiring may be wet or damaged and cause electrical shock.
DON’T send garments to the dry cleaner. Improper cleaning may set the smoke odor.
Because of the convection pattern that flames typically form during ignition, smoky residue saturates every opening. The soot constructs up in layers that may end up being solidified and tough to eliminate which is another reason to leave the cleaning to a specialist. When the cleaning teams do arrive, they promptly differentiate salvageable items from charred debris, taking the things creating the strongest odors out for cleaning.
Following a fire, wall surface areas can be harmed by soot. Non-water based cleaners need to be used to remove soot from walls. These kinds of chemicals should be handled by a specialist due to the fumes and toxicity. Water-based cleaning items can cause spots to bleed into plaster walls which is why a trained specialist should be left to deal with these chemicals.
Most importantly, a restoration effort reduces the after-effects a blaze can have on the health of those who return in. If a homeowner does not have the property restored by a professional, the results can be found later on down the line. To an untrained eye they might believe the issue has been fixed; they may experience the remaining impacts of indoor air pollution for numerous months later on in the form of increased respiratory discomfort.
Companies like SERVPRO of East Hamilton/Fairfield are leading experts in fire restoration. They are trained to help remove your belongings as well as cleaning and storing them until your property has been restored to its original condition.
When water damage occurs, it needs to be dried immediately to avoid the possibility of fungus growth. Soggy and wet materials to a home's structure are a clear sign that mold could begin to develop. Attics are a great place from mold growth because of the warm, damp, and dark environment.
An attic environment allows mold spores to reproduce quickly and take over the premises. As the microbes begin to breed and seep into the porous materials, they will start to make way into any other wet materials that they can find.
Typically, the homeowner will have 24 to 48 hours before contamination begins. Full infection won't stop until the active growth has been cleaned and removed. When mold is present, it is best to eliminate wait time so that the spores do not multiply and eat away at the building's structure.
How does mold spread?
Mold can carry to other sections of a home through the air conditioner and the movements of people and pets. The more time the mold has to spread through the house, the more advanced the mold cleaning job will be. When SERVPRO performs a mold job, it will begin by cutting off the air supply and establishing a tightly sealed barrier. In some cases, mold damage professionals will have to clean the mold out of ducts after the initial cleaning.
Although it’s not a crime scene, we also handle unattended death cleanup.
We respond to crime scene cleanup 24-hours a day. Before beginning cleanup, we will work with the local police department to ensure the crime scene has been cleared.
Crime scene cleanups are almost always sensitive. Any documentation we need to collect will not be shared or distributed. If the cleanup is part of an insurance claim, we’ll seek the permission of the property owner or the family to share any photography with the insurance company.
Completed job after the adjacent home caught fire caused damage leading to board up
If your property in has experienced a fire, there are several reasons why you might want to board up structural damage or winDow’s. In addition to keeping the external elements out of a building with fire damage, boarding up can also prevent additional losses due to looting and make the fire cleanup process easier. SERVPRO of East Hamilton/Fairfield offers full-service restoration specialists who can also assist in board-up services.
Here are four reasons to board-up after a fire.
In a commercial setting, there may still be viable stock on the premises. If products that appear viable remain in the building, you should consider boarding up. These items may require assessment and cleaning and may not be fit for sale, but having them properly processed rather than stolen can be helpful for insurance purposes.
You want to protect electronics and other valuables. Depending on the extent of the fire damage, you may be able to restore some electronics or other valuable property to working condition.
You need to keep out the elements. If the structure of your property has sustained extensive damage, you should try to keep the elements out to prevent additional damage. Exposure to additional water, wind, or sunlight can compound the damage caused by smoke residue and soot.
You want to limit soot damage. It is generally a good idea to reduce foot traffic on the scene of a recent fire. When soot gets embedded into carpeting or upholstery, it can be much more difficult to restore these materials to a pre-fire condition.
Talk to our experts at SERVPRO East Hamilton Fairfield, about whether boarding up is a good strategy for preventing loss and limiting damage after a fire. Your major concern is likely to be how to recover from fire damage as quickly and completely as possible. Preventing looting and exposure to the elements can make fire cleanup more successful. Many types of storm damage are covered by homeowner’s insurance. Most policies cover damage by lightning, fire, wind, and hail. Some also cover water damage restoration and replacement costs due to flooding and other storm concerns, but water damage is less commonly covered than other types of storm damage.
It is important to check with your insurance provider to determine what all costs are covered if a storm leads to home damage. By understanding what types of damage your insurance policy covers, you can properly prepare financially in case a storm does damage your home.
Regardless, a prompt response to the damage is often necessary to cut costs and restore as much of your home as possible, reducing the need for more expensive and time-consuming replacements.
There are so many emotions and questions following a house fire that it is hard to know what you should and shouldn't do. Here are a few basic tips to keep in mind.
Dont’s
*Do not enter your home until you've gotten permission that it is safe to do so
*Do not start or move your car if it has been damaged
*Do not try to clean any of the smoke or soot damage yourself
Do's
*contact family members/loved ones to inform them of the fire
*attend to frightened pets and ensure their safety and comfort
*call all utility providers (electric, gas, water) to inform them of the fire
*call homeowners insurance company to begin the claim process
*find somewhere to stay.

When it comes to dealing with flood water in East Hamilton Fairfield, it's important to know that this type of water often falls into the black category (category 3). This can become a factor in many cleanup operations. It is important to understand where the water comes from and what to do if flooding occurs in your business.
Where Black Water Comes From
Contaminated water, otherwise known as black water, is any water that may have come in contact with fecal matter. This may include
Sewer water
Water from fields
Toilet backup

Flooding falls into the black category because often there is no way to tell what it has come into contact with. In most cases, it is best to assume it has been contaminated and follow the proper sanitation procedures.

Any household that experiences a water damage emergency will jump to drastic conclusions about the potential water in home damage and mitigation requirements that follow. The truth is, most water in home flood damage can be addressed without extreme mitigation measures, or radical alterations to the way a home operates.
When flood damage is noticed, the first step in water damage restoration and drying is to contact the home insurance group responsible for taking care of water cleanup and emergency expenses. The next step is letting a water cleanup crew begin the process of water damage restoration.
The first reaction of a homeowner when water damage happens is extreme shock and questions about water cleanup. How could this type of emergency happen? The most common causes of flooding in the home originate with appliances like clothes washers, air conditioners, and water heaters. All homes use these appliances, so flooding should not be completely unexpected. The shock comes from not knowing how water damage restoration in the home will be addressed. This is where water in home expert damage assessment is needed most.
As a homeowner, there are many liberties that you cannot obtain by merely renting a property from someone else. The other side of this coin, however, is the understanding that when you are facing a disaster to your home, there is no one else deemed responsible for taking care of it. That is why professional restoration services exist, to help you to recover from a damaging event without lingering effects like losing structural integrity or ruining valuable items.
Not all restoration projects are the same, however. There might be circumstances that you feel you can resolve on your own, yet more extreme events, such as the need for water removal for your home, which are too labor intensive and technical to take on for yourself. That is where our SERVPRO of East Hamilton Fairfield team can help you reclaim your damaged home and restore the damages quickly and efficiently.
When it comes to water removal services, our IICRC certified team is first going to assess the cause of the problem that you are experiencing. Some sources might be easy to find, like water pouring out of an appliance that you have. Others take thorough inspection to completely root out, such as multiple cracks and missing mortar joints in the foundation of your home allowing for water penetration into the basement area. Once the source of the damage has gotten identified, our experienced professionals can localize water shut down or repair damages to your foundation.

If you are faced with a biohazard cleanup, our professional, compassionate staff at SERVPRO can guide you through the process.
If you are faced with a biohazard cleanup, such as a trauma scene, sewage backup, or hoarding situation, here are some key factors to consider:
Avoid exposure to any contaminants present. There are serious health risks associated with exposure to blood, bodily fluids, animal waste, sewage, and other biohazardous materials. Treat all potentially hazardous materials as if they are contaminated.
Assess ways to secure your personal safety and contain the situation, such as turning off the HVAC system and avoiding standing water or sagging ceilings.
Before attempting to clean up a trauma scene yourself, particularly when it involves a loved one, consider the long-term mental and emotional consequences of doing so. The cleanup process can be emotional and traumatic in itself. Biohazard cleanup professionals are trained to deal with trauma situations with compassion and discretion.
If you would like assistance with a biohazard cleanup, our trained professionals can assess the situation, provide a no-cost estimate, and clean the affected areas and dispose of the waste in accordance with federal and state regulations.
Even when you make an effort to keep your home clean, there will be times where the workload may be too much. Travel, illness, or hosting large events may require some extra help. A professional service can help you focus on what is most important and not worry about cleaning. Here are five qualities to look for if you are thinking about hiring cleaning services.
1. Professionalism
Cleaning service employees should maintain a level of professionalism. Not all companies require their employees to wear a uniform, however, their appearance should be neat and clean. Employees should also carry a form of identification linking them to the service, as well as respect your home and your family.
2. Equipment
Always call ahead to verify if the service company will provide cleaning equipment such as sponges, brooms, mops, detergents, vacuum cleaner, and all other equipment necessary. If you prefer that the service providers use the products that you have, let them know ahead of time so there isn’t any confusion.
3. References
Search for testimonials online and look for references from previous clients. Try to look for clients who had needs similar to your own. Check for feedback such as turn-around time, effectiveness, and employee attitude.
4. Attention to Detail
Focus on details is what differentiates a professional cleaning service. A service where employees know to clean under the furniture, corners, baseboards, in between shelves, among others makes your house look and feel cleaner.
SERVPRO of East Hamilton/Fairfield provides 24-hour emergency service and is dedicated to being faster to any-sized disaster in our community. We can respond immediately to your emergency and have the expertise to handle your restoration or cleaning needs.

Mold can be in your home and not even realize it. Whether you see the affected areas or not, here are a few things you can do! First, if you see visible mold, do not mess with it. What Should You Do:
Stay out of affected areas.
Turn off the HVAC system and ALL fans.
Contact SERVPRO of East Hamilton Fairfield for mold remediation services.
What Should You Not Do:
Don’t touch or disturb the mold.
Don’t blow air across any surfaces with visible or suspected mold growth.
Don’t attempt to dry the area yourself.
Don’t spray bleach or other disinfectants on the mold.

Mold can hide in many places indoors, such as under carpet, inside walls and paneling, and in piping and insulation. It has also been found behind wallpaper, but it’s important to be cautious about investigating it without an indoor environmental specialist present; once exposed, mold spores can spread easily. It only takes two to three days for mold to grow indoors. If you do suspect a mold outbreak at your commercial facility, stay away from suspected areas until experts can come and perform the necessary tests.
If a mold breaks out but goes undetected for a long time, the more damage it can cause. That could disrupt your operations and impact you financially. If your building has suffered any water damage, watch for mold signs. The sooner it’s discovered, the sooner an indoor environmental specialist can come in to clean it up.

Smoke alarms save lives. Smoke alarms that are properly installed and maintained play a vital role in reducing fire deaths and injuries. If there is a fire in your home, smoke spreads fast and you need smoke alarms to give you time to get out.
Here's what you need to know:
A closed door may slow the spread of smoke, heat and fire. Install smoke alarms in every sleeping room and outside each separate sleeping area. Install alarms on every level of the home.
Smoke alarms should be interconnected. When one sounds, they all sound.
Large homes may need extra smoke alarms.
Test your smoke alarms at least once a month. Press the test button to be sure the alarm is working.
Today’s smoke alarms will be more technologically advanced to respond to a multitude of fire conditions, yet mitigate false alarms.
When a smoke alarm sounds, get outside and stay outside.
Replace all smoke alarms in your home every 10 years.

The fire restoration process should be started as quickly as possible following a fire damage. The longer you wait to contact a certified restoration company, the more likely it is for damage from water and smoke to intensify. It’s bad enough there was a fire, but the water and chemicals used to extinguish it can cause secondary damage. The remnants will continue to do damage long after the flames are extinguished.
Some people will attempt conventional cleaning methods like renting a steam cleaner and using common cleaning agents available at the store. Unfortunately, this will barely make an impact on the problem and could cause bigger issues. Chemical agents could react with the residue and cause permanent damage, and in some cases, they may cause toxic fumes. Fire damage cleanup is one of the most difficult jobs out there, and it should be left to a professional for the best results.
Let SERVPRO of East Hamilton Fairfield be your certified professional when facing your own fire damage. We will walk you through the process step by step to ensure that your home is properly restored. Our team of professionals is available 24/7 to help you put your life back together and restore your normal as much as possible.

Water damage can be a big issue, if not taken care of properly the left over moisture can turn into mold. Whether hidden in your walls or out in plain sight, mold only needs a little moisture and a dark space. A few things to keep in mind when you find water some where it shouldn’t be in your home.
Clean water as quickly as possible
Use fans to dry the area
Dehumidify the room
Sanitize the area
Check all furniture in the area to make sure it is not damp as well.
When water creeps in make sure you know the proper way to handle it, this can keep you from spending more than needed. Considering washing machines are used to keep things clean, you may wonder how you can even end up with mold in your washer – but it’s entirely possible. When it happens it’s one of the worst things ever, when that smell can soak into your clothing and never come out. But all is not lost; not only can you salvage your mold-contaminated washing machine, but you can even save your clothing.
Don’t Throw Out Your Washer Just Yet
Before you haul your washing machine to your Cincinnati,OH dumpster, try these steps to clean out the mold smell and remediate your mold issues:
Scrub the machine out thoroughly. Glove up and get in there with some elbow grease and a brillo pad. Scrub the mold away until you can’t see anything but clean metal, then run an empty wash cycle to rinse the particulates away.
Use everyday household products to both kill the mold and get rid of the smell. Run a cycle with a 1:4 mix of water and baking soda, then another cycle with vinegar put into the detergent tray. Both will help clean out any smells, and eradicate remaining mold. Just remember to run an empty wash cycle after to rinse it out and prevent your dirty clothes from smelling like vinegar.
Bleach everything. Bleach and other chemical cleaners can be that last “burn it all to the ground” resort, but they’ll work in a pinch. If you want to try something a bit gentler, though, give an oxy-based cleaner that uses oxidizing solutions a try.
When rains fall, winds roar and storms surge after making sure everyone is safe and looked after, we worry about our property. We worry about roof shingles blowing off or that old tree that seems to be swaying more than feels safe that is near your garage. It seems like in a storm when we think about property damage, we think about the structure, the roof torn off or a tree on the roof. But we leave out the secondary damages this causes to our contents, our furniture and everything that makes a house a home. Before tossing all your contents our or placing them out on the curb for pick up, make sure you check with SERVPRO of East Hamilton Fairfield to see if the contents can be cleaned and restored. We have been helping customers like you when disaster strikes for 28+ years. We are ready 24/7, 365 to serve you.
We often find mitigation and repair used interchangeably, but they are two different words for two entirely different services that SERVPRO provides.
The dictionary definition of mitigation is: the action of reducing the severity, seriousness or painfulness of something. So essentially mitigation is the process of treating the site of loss to prevent any further damage or destruction on homes or businesses. SERVPRO’s mitigation process comes in many different forms depending on the kind of loss, but our main goal is ensure our customers are out of harms way as quickly and efficiently as possible. For instance during most water damage scenarios, we mitigate the effected space by opening up walls and removing flooring due to moisture barriers, apply anti-microbial and dry them.
The dictionary definition of repair is: fix or mend (a thing suffering from damage or a fault). So essentially repair is the process of stopping the cause of loss from imposing more damage or destruction on homes or businesses by replacing or returning the damaged source to optimal condition. We’re all in this together to make it “Like it never even happened.”
Bursting pipes leave a big mess. You can call a professional in Middletown Springboro, to fix a broken pipe, but what do you do about the water damage? Plumbers will perform the necessary repairs to fix your burst or leaking pipe, but it will be up to you to deal with the cleanup.
Water Damage
Water can cause serious damage, especially if it is left standing for a prolonged period of time. You should start the cleanup efforts as soon as possible. If the damage is limited to a small space, you might be able to handle things on your own. A water mitigation professional should be called in if the bursting pipes affected multiple rooms, traveled between floors of your home or went unnoticed for over eight hours.
Cleanup
If you are dealing with standing water or the leak happened near electrical appliances, turn off the power before you enter. You will need to have any carpet removed. Depending on the damage, it may be salvageable. Clear the room of all furniture and other removable items.
If you are dealing with standing water, it needs to be removed. You can hire a professional or use a shop vac, depending on how much water you are dealing with. It is important to thoroughly dry the area. Warm, dry weather might allow you to open doors and windows. Bring in big fans.
You may even need to remove sections of your wall to ensure the space behind is completely dry. Drywall and insulation can wick water. If the insulation isn’t dried properly mold can grow. Water mitigation specialists can come in and determine the full extent of the damage caused by the bursting pipes.
Dealing with water damage can be a frustrating and overwhelming task. It is vital that you remove all water-soaked materials and dry the space out completely. The faster you can accomplish this, the less likely you will have to deal with mold in the future.
When one thinks of a water damage incident they may not think of it in a context of their own home, if they even think about it at all. SERVPRO of East Hamilton Fairfield sees water damages happen every day and at different times of the day. Reviewing or speaking with your insurance company or agent can be helpful and save you a ton of money in the long run. An extension of that would be to read your policy in detail and ask your agent to go over or explain some of its content. Sewer back up if an often over looked item in policies. If you are a renter and not a homeowner you should still have a contents insurance policy to cover any damage items. Learn where the water shut off valve is in your home that can also limit damages. Knowing where that is can be helpful in the event of an emergency.

When fires occurs, in both residential homes and business, it’s not just the cleaning up of the structural areas that we need to be concerned with.
Our crews have to be so careful with the homeowner’s personal belongings because the insurance companies need very specific documentation in order to appropriately compensate the insured so they they have money to replace all of the damaged items. The fallen debris must be sifted through prior to bagging for disposal so that any contents, which may be very small items, can be separated for further valuation.
SERVPRO of East Hamilton Fairfield team members need to be very aware of properly bagging and separating customers content, so taking our time in small spaces with lots of contents is a very important part of the clean up process after a smoke damage after a fire.
Cleaning smoke stains off walls and ceilings can be a difficult task. Even if the fire was small like a cooking fire, the smoke can quickly discolor your ceilings and walls. Since the smoke rises, the smoke usually damages your ceilings first as the smoke spreads across the ceiling leaving smoke residue. While smoke can usually be cleaned easily off metal and smooth surfaces like counters and ovens, ceilings and walls are not so easy to clean, specially if you have very high ceilings.
While we all hope we never have to suffer through the experience of a house fire, it is important to know what to do if one should happen. The first thing you should do is ensure the fire has been extinguished completely.
This can be done by someone in the home if the fire is small and can be put out safely. Or by the fire department if the fire is too big and dangerous to safely extinguish by the homeowner. It’s important to note that it’s always best to call the fire department right as soon as a fire is spotted and to get everyone out of the home quickly and safely.

Aside from fire, water damage is quite possibly the fastest acting damage to your home or business. Flooding, rain, leaking pipes, or broken appliances are all some possible sources. A whole in your home's foundation that allows humid, moisture-filled air can also cause water damage. Moisture in large amounts leads to condensation, causing water pooling and damage.
Once water is present it is likely to quickly take action against any porous materials and dispersing to where it’s least resistant, depending on the kind of water and length it is sitting. Even material that are not quite as porous but still allow for sitting water, will feel the affects. Mold, rotting, or destroyed material are all potential consequences of water intruding into your home.
Water damage is categorized by a class system Classification is based on the effects of the water, the rate of evaporation, and how much moisture is absorbed by the materials in the area. There are also several different types of water. This includes clean, gray, or black water and are differentiated depending on the source as well as the water's contamination levels.
Have you been affected by damage recently due to high winds or a tornado? If so, then you know how important it is to attempt to save the contents in your home from being ruined during a clean up process. Even if your contents have not yet been damaged, you may still want to protect them during the clean up. Protecting and restoring your personal items after a disaster is done through the pack out process. This is when your restoration company removes and takes your damaged contents (or contents that need to be protected or cleaned), to another location. The new location will allow your contents to be kept safe and to be restored if needed.
SERVPRO of East Hamilton Fairfield is here 24/7 to help with any disaster. Whether it’s rain damage, high wind damage, fire damage, or even tornado damage.

However, if you can manage to get things in motion quickly, you may be able to reduce expenses and repair times associated with flood damage to your residence or business. Here are a few things to try to act on after a damage.
Get Things Higher Up Before a flash flood - You may want to spend some time in the hours before it hits moving your belongings to higher ground. Floods don't often reach higher than a few feet in the home, and you should be able to keep most of your belongings safe by taking them to higher floors or placing them on counter-tops and secure tables. There are thousands of different kinds of molds. A lot of times if you suspect mold in your house you may want to get a mold test. However a mold test isn’t really necessary if mold is visible. The first thing we would want to do is figure why mold is growing and creating mold colonies. Mold needs three things to stay dormant and survive, which is a mold spore, moisture, and a food source. The food source can be anything from dry wall dust, insulation etc...etc... Once the source has been fixed that caused the mold we can remediate it. SERVPRO of East Hamilton/Fairfield professionals are available 24/7 365. If you have any questions or concerns on mold you can call our office at (513)422-9200.

Biohazardous Clean Ups By SERVPRO Means Good Results
A biohazard spill often involves some type of bodily fluid. In private homes, this usually means a blood spill. There are certain risks when it comes to restoring a home after an incident with blood happens, and they need to seriously considered before cleanup efforts begin.
Residents should not attempt to clean up a blood spill in their home. Even without the emotional component, there is the risk of disease and other pathogens in even a small amount of blood. SERVPRO of East Hamilton Fairfield understands both elements and how to deal with them when developing a restoration plan.
Cleaning and removing blood and blood stains require chemical cleaners designed to neutralize the pathogens in them. Infectious diseases found in blood spills and splatters include Hepatitis A, B, and C, as well as HIV and many others. To ensure we do this properly, our technicians utilize anti-bacterial cleaners we keep on-hand.
The anti-bacterial cleaners are necessary since blood does not respond to conventional cleaners like dirt or soot. Conventional agents do not always clean blood completely and even when they do, there is often, a stain remaining at the spill point. Leaving a visible mark is not something we accept; if we cannot remove the entire mark, our technicians can repaint the affected area or remove the stained structural property.
Restoring your home after any disaster is difficult. Cleaning up a blood spill is one of the more difficult tasks we face, but SERVPRO of East Hamilton Fairfield is here to help. We want to return your home to its original state so that you can move forward when the time is right for you. Call us today at. Call (513)858-1071 to schedule an inspection and get started.

If you think the air you breathe indoors is cleaner than what’s outside, think again. The EPA estimates indoor air can be two to five times more polluted than outdoor air. All that bad air translates into everything from frequent colds and sore throats to headaches, asthma, allergies and chronic fatigue, which in turn causes employee downtime.
When dust and debris and other contaminants build up in your heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system, they can trigger allergies and other health problems. But they also reduce energy efficiency, which increases your energy costs. Now you have two compelling reasons to make sure the air ducts and HVAC system in your workplace are running efficiently.
If your HVAC has been operating for some time without attention, it could be circulating one or more of the following:
Dust
Pollen
Odors
Dirt and debris
Other contaminants
SERVPRO of East Hamilton Fairfield Professionals routinely inspect the heating, ventilation and air conditioning unit (HVAC). Keeping them clean can extend the life of the equipment. This can in turn save you money and give you cleaner air to breathe.
Having the right know how to address water damage in commercial buildings is a trade mark of SERVPRO technicians. We also have the drying equipment to tackle any size water damage. We work closely with Property Mangers, Insurance Adjusters, and Consultants to handle jobs in a timely and professional manner.

Posting basic rules for waste disposal near toilets can reduce the frequency of clogs and flooded toilets in a property. Recommend occupants and guests dispose of all feminine hygiene and paper products other than toilet paper in trash cans or containers and place these receptacles in convenient locations.
2. Provide Alternative Disposal Containers
It is a good idea to supply every stall in a women's bathroom with some type of bin to offer a convenient disposal alternative to flushing. By making the disposal of products that should not be flushed easier and more discreet, you can prevent clogs and backups before they start.
3. Order Thinner Toilet Paper
Single-ply paper is less likely to cause a clogged toilet than thicker toilet paper. Even if a building occupant or guest flushes a large wad of thinner paper, it is less likely to cause an overflow than two-ply or cushioned paper or wipes. You may also want to consider a toilet paper dispenser that restricts the amount of paper that can be rolled out at a time.
These three steps can reduce the likelihood, or at least the frequency, with which toilets flood a commercial property. If your property does suffer water or sewage damage as a result of a clogged toilet or toilet overflow, contact a plumber to eliminate the clog and SERVPRO of East Hamilton Fairfield’s expertise and equipment to repair these types of water damage.
After a storm rages it is likely that your home will experience a bit of flooding. When this happens, you will probably hear the water professionals from SERVPRO you hire talk about making a flood cut. A flood cut is a mark that is made 12 inches above the spot where the water damage stops. Specialists tear out everything below the flood cut to stop the spread of contamination and prevent mold growth. Here are some common questions about this process.
1. What Circumstances Require a Flood Cut?
Any time there is damage that cannot be dried with a fan, professionals are probably going to use a flood cut to be on the safe side. Insulation cannot be dried, so if there is wet insulation, the wall has to be cut out and the insulation removed. If the water is contaminated by storm-related debris or sewage, the wall must be discarded. If tests show any harmful microbes, the affected area must go.
2. Why Does the Flood Cut Have To Be a Foot Above the Damage?
Water damage from flooding does not like to stay politely in its place. What technicians can see with the naked eye may only be the beginning of the story. Placing the flood cut 12 inches above the visible water damage ensures that everything affected is remediated.
3. Is There Any Way To Save the Wall?
If the water damage is minimal and no insulation is affected, it is possible that quick removal of water and fast drying techniques can allow the wall to be salvaged. The water in question must also be clean. If it is contaminated at all, the wall has to be replaced.

The next step after inspection is water cleanup, which is a major mitigation strategy after a supply line break or pipe break. This involves removing water from all the rooms in a flooded home using vacuums and pumps. The extent of the damage caused by water in home determines the type of equipment the restoration company will use. The water should be removed as soon as possible to avoid bacterial and mold growth. The water from a supply line break or pipe break should be contained and extracted immediately to prevent further damage in a flooded home.
It is advisable to remove all wet materials like toys, clothing, pillows, throw rugs, and carpets from the affected area before water cleanup. Our professionals can expedite drying by removing wet surfaces on floors, ceiling, and walls after water cleanup. Unsalvageable dry walls or insulations such as baseboards should be removed to accelerate drying. The other method that can be used to accelerate drying in a water cleanup process involves opening cabinet doors and drawers.

As the trees begin to change and the weather shifts from hot and humid to cool and crisp, it’s time to prepare for the onset of cooler months. Whether you’re ready for hot cocoa and sweaters or are still holding on to ice cream and swim suits, there’s a lot to do to get ready for the changing seasons.
Inspect your roof If you have a heavy rainstorm or a foot of snow, does your roof have what it takes to handle that? Before settling in for another chilly fall and a freezing winter take a look at your roof for weak spots or cracks in your shingles and granules. If you see anything that looks off or unstable, a roofer may be what your home needs to weather this winter’s weather conditions.
Clean out your gutters As the leaves begin to turn, you know you’re only weeks away from them falling off entirely and stopping up your gutters and down spouts. Before you find yourself with a big mess on your hands, take the time now to clean out your gutters and drainpipes to prevent the possibility of water damage and clogs. A clean early in the season may not be sufficient through the winter, but it will make sure you’re prepared for the harsher weather to come. Water damages can be caused by clogged drains or overflowing water to collect on your roof.
Preparing your house for fall may not be what you planned to do during your weekend, but it’s something you’ll thank yourself for later when you don’t have to pay for repairs, most of the time even a covered claim will still have a deductible. With the right measures taken now, you will be prepared to settle in for the fall.
You should make notes about what items are ruined or damaged and take photographs too. You’ll be contacting your insurance company and a restoration contractor, so you want to be sure about your circumstances. Misunderstandings are common, but if you have photos and notes, you’ll be in a better position to know the extent of the fire damage and what needs to be restored or replaced. This should be done within hours after the fire is extinguished.
Once you have a clear picture of the damage, call your insurance company. Hopefully, you can do this the next day. It is important to call them as soon as possible, so they will send an insurance adjustor to your home or office quickly.
Call a Reputable Fire Damage Restoration Contractor
When searching for a local cleaning and restoration contractor, make sure they are Institution of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) certified. When it comes to smoke or fire damage restoration, fast action is important. Following the initial fire or smoke-related incident, smoke and soot will settle on surfaces creating additional damage to the structure and your contents. Smoke contains a wide variety of chemicals and by products, many of them aggressive in nature.
Material in furniture and flooring is often synthetic and when burned, creates chemical reactions. After only a short period of time, items can go from cleanable to unsalvageable. The longer acid or corrosive gasses stay on at-risk surfaces, the worse pitting or etching becomes. Pre-cleaning methods neutralize the acid and protect metal and glass, marble, china, chrome and more. We have them expertise and chemicals to make a situation “Like it never even happened.”

When a flood hits your home, there is not much time to collect yourself, let alone start to mitigate damages. However, if you can manage to get things in motion quickly, you may be able to reduce expenses and repair times associated with flood damage to your residence. When a flood hits, try your best to follow these points of advice to minimize property damage and headache in the ensuing days and weeks.
Get Things Higher Up Before the Storm - You may want to spend some time in the hours before it hits moving your belongings to higher ground. Floods don't often reach higher than a few feet in the home, and you should be able to keep most of your belongings safe by taking them to higher floors or placing them on counter-tops and secure tables. Be careful not to place too much trust in a table table, however, as it may buckle or overturn as floodwaters overtake it.

Homeowners Often Take on Unnecessary Risks to Cleanup Up Their Properties After a Fire Loss
One of the most troubling things about a disaster in your home is the uncertainty of when your home can ever look or feel the same again. With a situation like a fire in your residence, you want to correct the effects of this incident as quickly as possible to ensure that you do not allow for the situation to get worse. The temptation is probably high to immediately start to dry and clean or restore your damaged home on your own; there are many concerns that you should know.
As much as you want to save money and do things yourself, your hoke offers requires a professional restoration company. There are too many variables and threats that exist within the house that the average homeowner is ill-prepared to face. Our SERVPRO of East Hamilton Fairfield team of professionals can respond quickly and help to mitigate further damages while we prepare a plan to restore your home.
One of the most significant risks that a homeowner faces, once their home is affected by fire damages, is environmental exposure. With dirt, debris, soot, and smoke circulating throughout the air in the affected areas of your house, these contaminants to the atmosphere can lead to illness or breathing concerns for an individual without the appropriate protective equipment. Our technicians have the safety gear to prevent exposure in hazardous areas such as full-face respirators.
Another potential concern for the homeowner after a fire has gotten extinguished is a weakening of structural components and construction materials. It is not at all uncommon for ceilings to collapse, floors to give way, or walls to fall over. This risk is one that our SERVPRO of East Hamilton Fairfield professionals assume as we seek to begin the restoration process, but not one that you should.
As tempting as it might be to save yourself the cost of restoration, most homeowners would find that to restore their home to their insurance company’s standards correctly and safely, they need professional and experienced specialists. Our SERVPRO of East Hamilton Fairfield team is available 24/7 by calling (513)858-1071

After a fire, cleaning the contents and the structure as a whole is part of the restoration services. Different types of fire damage require different cleaning methods, and it is the work of our SERVPRO technicians to determine the most appropriate way of cleaning. The initial cleaning can be enough for some situations, while in others, we may advise you to do some refinishing and repainting.
After cleaning the various areas and contents, it is time to conduct deodorization. The process aims at getting rid of the unpleasant odors that are left behind after a fire. In most cases, identifying the sources of these smells is a difficult task since some of them may be coming from hard to access areas like cracks. We have the right tools that spray deodorizers into those spaces and neutralize the odor sources.

The three types of contaminated water:

Water from a clean source like a broken water line
If left untreated, can degrade into category 2 or 3 in which mold can possibly start forming colonies.
Category 2: "Gray Water"
Category 2 water is contaminated and could cause discomfort or illness. Examples include washing machine overflow; toilet overflow with some urine, but no feces; or dishwasher overflow.
May contain bacteria and viruses
Can quickly degrade into category 3 if left untreated
Category 3: "Black Water"
Category 3 water is grossly contaminated and could cause severe illness or death if ingested and any contact should be avoided. Examples include flooding from rivers or streams, water from beyond the toilet trap, water from the toilet bowl with feces, or standing water that has begun to support microbial growth.
May contain untreated sewage, harsh chemicals, and microbes
If you see visible mold, do not disturb it. You can inadvertently spread the mold infestation throughout your home/business. When mold is disturbed, the mold can release microscopic mold spores which become airborne and can circulate inside your home(mold spores can take several days to land on a surface once airborne).

There is nothing better than grilling out in the summertime or a nice fall day. Everyone love’s to see fire in the grill, under hot dogs and burgers at any outdoor party or family cookout. However, if a grill is not managed properly, an unwelcomed fire can turn your family cookout into a catastrophe. Here are some tips for keeping everyone at the party safe while grilling out:
General Grilling Tips
Propane and charcoal BBQ grills should only be used outdoors and preferable off of wooden decks.
The grill should be placed well away from the house, deck railings and out from under leaves and overhanging branches.
Keep children and pets away from the grilling area.
Keep your grill clean by removing grease or fat buildup from the grills and in trays below the grill.
Never leave your grill unattended.
If you have any questions or need help call SERVPRO of East Hamilton Fairfield at (513)858-1071.
Test smoke alarms monthly using the test button. Smoke alarms with non-replaceable batteries need the entire smoke alarm unit replaced every ten years or sooner . Other alarms need batteries replaced every year at least, and the unit replaced every ten years. If the alarm chirps signaling low battery(yes that annoying chirp that a lot of us listen to for months before changing), take the proper steps to replace the unit or the batteries immediately. Never disable or remove the battery from an alarm. Almost half of fires where smoke alarms were present but did not activate had missing or disconnected batteries. If you need help installing, testing or changing batteries in your smoke alarms, contact your local fire department, an electrician or the American Red Cross. Be sure your home has a fire emergency plan in place and conduct regular fire drills with your family.

The 4th of July is here which means FIREWORKS! Please keep these tip in mind when you're popping Fireworks!
Firework Safety Tips
Follow the directions on all fireworks and don't use them for anything other than what they're intended for.
Don't attempt to alter or combine fireworks products.
Never use homemade fireworks.
Report illegal explosives to the nearest fire or police department.
When lighting fireworks, always have water handy. A hose is best, but a bucket will suffice.
Spectators should remain a safe distance from the fireworks being lit.
Whoever lights the fireworks must be sober, wear safety glasses, and keep clothing well away from the flame when lighting.
Only light fireworks outdoors on a smooth, flat surface, away from all flammable materials including dry leaves and paper.
Never try to relight fireworks that appear to be duds. Wait up to 20 minutes for a possible delayed ignition. Then if nothing happens, soak the firework in a bucket of water and dispose of it.
Dispose of all firework materials by first soaking them in water before putting them in the trash.
Keep sparklers away from clothing and other flammable materials.
Below are the most common Fire Hazards in your home.
Alcohol and Fire
It's a fact that many house fires are caused by someone attempting to cook or smoke while under the influence of alcohol.
Candles
Candle fires happen in places like bedrooms and bathrooms where people use them as mood enhancers. Unfortunately, people can fall asleep with a candle still burning or leave the room without snuffing out the flame. Candles should NEVER be left burning unattended!
Cooking
Many items in the kitchen can catch fire easily including pot holders, dish towels, and product packaging. Keep curtains away from the stove and clean up all spills on the stove top or near by counters.
Electrical
Unsafe use of electricity can be a ticking time bomb! An electrical fire can happen at any time. Follow-up when a fuse or circuit breaker blows. Don't just reset the breaker or replace the fuse. Find out what caused the problem.
Cigarettes
Too many fires are caused from careless disposal of smoking materials.
No one wants mold damage anywhere in their home, but the laundry room is a common and frustrating area where it makes itself known. You try to remove the mold yourself without success and finally ask, "what company near me holds the key to complete mold remediation?" The answer is SERVPRO, your local mold management and remediation experts.
It is not surprising that mold damage plagues your Middletown Springboro laundry room. Plenty of organic material and a wide range of microbial accelerants lie in your laundry room. The area is isolated, in an out of the way corner of your home. The long term leaks on the back of your washer itself is a treasure trove of nooks and crannies that hide mold growth. You sniff the musty odor every time you open the door to the laundry room.
Dealing with persistent mold is not a do it yourself job. All your efforts fail because mold is a tricky problem that requires remediation experts from SERVPRO to conquer. Mold can hide behind cabinet areas in places you may not be able to visibly see. Hoses and other plumbing connections may be examined for leaks and evidence of mold growth.
The washer and dryer themselves are possibly a source of mold contamination. Our Mold Professionals may require a Mold Test by a 3rd party for air quality and spore count, unless mold is visible then no mold test is needed. If Hoses and seals are the problems, a referral to an appliance repair specialist makes sense. Proper Containment and Mold Remediation can move your laundry room back to fresh-smelling instead of odor-creating.
If you have concerns and detect odors or see suspect microbial growth, call our friendly staff at SERVPRO of East Hamilton Fairfield 513-858-1071 to set up a consultation.
As a homeowner, flood damage can be very destructive, and if you do not take care of it right away, the extra water in your home can cause electrical hazards and expensive damage to your home. It can also lead to the growth of hazardous mold. Therefore, when the worst happens, you need to call our experts at SERVPRO of East Hamilton Fairfield so that we can come in with our professionals and equipment to dry out your home as quickly as possible.
When your home floods it can be one of the most destructive forms of damage you can experience.
We also understand that it is a very stressful time. That is why our team of caring, trained and professional Water Damage Technicians is here when you need us at any time. We will lead you through the process, step by step, and do all that is needed efficiently and quickly, so we can get your home and life back to normal as soon as possible. When the unexpected happens, we at SERVPRO of East Hamilton Fairfield can be to your home quickly to get your home cleaned up. With our rapid response, your walls, floors, and personal property will have a much better chance of being restored to its original state.
Sources from outside or inside the structure can cause water intrusions to your home. Excessive rain can over saturate the ground, which results in hydrostatic pressure. This happens when the moisture outside your home or foundational wall is greater than the pressure inside. Since water naturally seeks out lower pressure, this can result in foundational leaks, and even cracking. We use professional equipment at SERVPRO of East Hamilton Fairfield to efficiently and quickly remove the water before it begins to cause damage to your structure and other, secondary water problems. We will also bring in dehumidifiers which work to get rid of any moisture and start moving the air to assist in drying out your home. Mold vs. Human-Which species prefers 50 and 70 degrees to live?
Answer: BOTH
The battle against mold damage developing in your home is a constant one. Since mold is everywhere, in the air and on many surfaces throughout our environment, exposure is inevitable where moisture is present.
Damp, dark spaces within your East Hamilton Fairfield home are perfect breeding grounds for mold damage. However, controlling the sources of moisture found in your home can significantly increase your chance of avoiding these types of damages from developing in your house entirely. At SERVPRO we prefer to maintain a relative humidity level below 50%, promptly repairing plumbing leaks, damaged roofs, and windows. Thoroughly cleaning and drying any areas affected by flooding, properly ventilating your shower, laundry room and cooking area, all of which greatly increase your chances.
However, how do you know what mold even looks like if you have never seen it before? Mold growths often look like common dirt blotches but may develop into patches with many different colors and have a musty odor associated with them. If you find mold spores growing in your home, there is no reason to discover which type of mold you have. If you can see it, or smell mold, a possible health risk may already be present, requiring you to contact a restoration company, like SERVPRO, to deal with the situation properly.
A company with expertly trained remediation technicians can perform the proper services and repair the source of moisture causing the issue. The best thing you can do is have the mold removed and work on ways to prevent future growths from forming within your living space. SERVPRO technicians highly suggest seeking professional assistance with any area larger than 10 square feet. It is likely that you do not have the resources or experience to handle the larger contaminated areas on your own.

What's causing the mold to grow? It could be a leaky pipe, humid basement or a heavy rainstorm that flooded your entire first floor. The size of the problem is less important than your ability to repair the source of moisture. It’s imperative to stop further moisture intrusion, otherwise, the mold will just continue to grow and spread.
Mold growth in a basement, attic or crawl space is relatively common because residents don't see these areas often, and they can be very humid.
It’s not worth risking the potential health issues, and mold will simply continue to devalue your property until the problem becomes so rampant that the home is uninhabitable. Nobody wants to purchase a seller's mold issue. Attic mold almost never affects the indoor air quality in the living space, but it sure threatens real estate deals.
Regardless of whether you’re on the buying or selling end of the transaction, be sure you understand the laws about informing a purchasing party about home defects. The law in most states, generally, is that you have to disclose all known risks, which includes evidence of mold in the home. Providing the details of a previous inspection, mold lab test results or even simply stating that stains on a wall might be mold could be considered sufficient disclosure. Call us 24/7 365. A continuous state of elevated humidity is a primary cause of excessive microbial growth in for residences and can quickly increase the amount of damage that follows. Other factors, such as the presence of absorbent materials in the home can also play a role in how rapidly microbial growth occurs.
Mold remediation experts know that the existence of future invasive water can cause the microbial problem to return, rendering mold remediation efforts useless. Once we eliminate these sources, we can then begin removing mold-damaged materials, laundering and cleaning household items and furniture, and caring for the carpeting throughout the home. Walls that harbor mold, even if dormant, need cleaning and dried.

In some situations, the homeowner may not be able to do anything to prepare for the devastation that it does, especially when there is little warning in advance. This is also why so many weather stations are often focused on telling the people in their immediate and surrounding areas what is going on before the storm hits the areas.

After a flood, many homeowners and property managers wonder if their carpet and pad can be saved. The answer is, it depends. Factors such as the age and quality of the carpet and pad, as well as the type of installation used, have to be taken into consideration.
There are 3 floodwater categories that determine whether the carpet and padding can be restored to their pre-water damage:
Category 1 (clean water): non-contaminated water that may come from a broken pipe, sink, etc. After the water has been extracted, carpets can be dried and restored in place.
Category 2 (gray water): dirty water that has been released by sump pumps, washing machines, dishwashers, etc. The carpet can usually be restored if it has been wet for less than 48 hours. The pad is replaced in majority of cases.
Category 3 (black water): water containing dangerous contaminants that may originate from sewage and toilet back flows as well as from floods caused by natural disasters. To protect your family’s health, carpets and pads should be removed then discarded.
Microscopic mold spores naturally occur almost everywhere, both outdoors and indoors. This makes it impossible to remove all mold from a home or business. Therefore, mold remediation reduces the mold spore count back to its natural or baseline level. Some restoration businesses advertise “mold removal” and even guarantee to remove all mold, which is a fallacy. Below are a few mold facts.
Before mold remediation can begin, any sources of water or moisture must be dried out. Otherwise, the mold may return.
Mold often produces a strong, musty odor and can lead you to possible mold problem areas.
Even higher-than-normal indoor humidity can support mold growth. Keep indoor humidity below 45 percent. Mold spores thrive on moisture. Mold spores can quickly grow into colonies when exposed to water. These colonies may produce allergens and irritants

Mold spores are microscopic and float along in the air and may enter your home through windows, doors, or AC/heating systems.
Mold spores thrive on moisture and a food source (dry wall dust). Mold spores can quickly grow into colonies when exposed to water. These colonies may produce allergens and irritants.
Before mold remediation can begin, any sources of water or moisture must be addressed. Otherwise, the mold may return.
Mold often produces a strong, musty odor and can lead you to possible mold problem areas.

Knowing which steps to take in the face of a commercial fire can help prevent you from becoming anxious, losing money, and undergoing extensive property damages. To handle fire damage successfully and speedily, implement the following four tips:
1. Call The Insurance Company Immediately.
Be sure that you call your insurance company once the fire is out. This step is important because your insurance agent will work with you to file a claim and determine how much coverage you'll attain for the commercial damages.
2. Contact A Fire Remediation Expert.
In addition to fire, smoke, and soot damage, your business may also suffer from water damage as a result of the firefighting efforts.
SERVPRO of Warren County specializes in fire and water damage restoration. We have the specific damage restoration training, personnel, and equipment and can quickly restore your business to pre-fire condition. Don't ever attempt to handle any of the cleanups, drying, or restoration processes on your own. Doing so could put you in peril of injury and illness.
3. Assemble Your Records.
In addition to contacting a fire remediation expert, make sure that you assemble your business's essential records. You'll want to have this information with you when you start working with your insurance company. To guarantee that you can have all of your files ready in a safe place, make a point to buy a fireproof safe where they can be stored.
4. Get Permission To Reenter The Building.
Always ask the fire department or another local authority whether you can reenter your building. In some cases, a fire can weaken the structural integrity of the commercial property and make it subject to collapse. This is why you need to assure that reentry is safe for you and your employees.
Take a kitchen rag and dip it in 1/2 cup of vinegar and 1/2 cup olive oilsolution and rub it on. Apply to the whole surface area. It really works! The scratches will be fixed!
But I really do enjoy my house more when it’s tidy, so here are some of my tips for motivating myself to clean–the main ways I trick myself into getting into cleaning mode…
Pick up flowers from the grocery store
Play some fun music–right now, I’m playing a lot of the Anthem Lights channel on Pandora, it’s a bunch of great covers–you’ll LOVE it!
Move furniture–when I move my furniture around (something I always enjoy because #crazy) I always end up seeing the mess with new eyes which for some reason gives me motivation to clean
Set a timer–it’s amazing what I can get done in 20 minutes when I hear that timer ticking
Focus only on surfaces and floors–clear off the tables and counters–use that steamy hot rag, then sweep and mop the floors–nothing else, sorry, it’s the rule!
Invite someone over in an hour–your own personal blackmail
Buy some new yummy cleaning supplies–because I can’t resist good smells
The winter months tend to have more home fires and Lorraine Carli with the National Fire Protection Association, says some of the risk comes with holiday decorating.
(Carli) “In terms of not stringing too many light strings together, not overloading sockets. Candles are in use this time of year so make sure that they’re away from anything that can burn.”
They also suggest having heating systems and fireplaces checked. But cooking in general is the leading cause of home fires. The best way to prevent it: Don’t leave the stove unattended.
(Carli) “Particularly if you have things on the stove top that you’re frying.”
The biggest life saver, early warning — smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. Change the batteries at least once a year, test them monthly, and get the ones hard-wired to your home if you can.
(Carli) “We also recommend that people have smoke alarms that are interconnected so that if one sounds they all sound.”
Also make and practice a home escape plan with two ways out of each room and a safe-distance meeting place outside.
Did you know that roughly half of home fire deaths result from fires reported between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m., when most people are asleep? Smoke alarms save lives. The national fire protection association recommends installing smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside each seperate sleeping area, and on every level of your home, including the basement.
